A Queenstown skydive or a Wanaka outing

A Queenstown skydive can be a local tandem experience or the starting point for a longer excursion to Wanaka. Both selected products offer tandem jumps from 9,000, 12,000 or 15,000 ft, but their overall schedules are different. Choose the place where you want to jump before comparing the altitude options and the equipment included.

The local Queenstown product lists three hours for the overall activity; the Wanaka outing lists six hours and includes return transfers from Queenstown. Those periods cover much more than freefall. Keep your jump day flexible and avoid making a tight onward connection depend on an exact finish. The weather and activity planning guide explains why reserve time matters for flights.

Local tandem jump and equipment

The Queenstown product starts at 35 Shotover Street. It includes a tandem skydiving master, the jump from the booked height, and safety equipment including a jumpsuit, hat, goggles and harness. There are lockers for valuables and access to base facilities, including Wi-Fi and outdoor games. The photo and video package is an extra.

Altitude is a booking choice rather than a promise that every passenger jumps from the highest level. The product describes freefall varying with the option and a canopy-flight segment. Treat those airborne descriptions separately from the hours reserved for the whole experience: preparation, the flight and the wider activity are different parts of the booking.

The local operator’s check-in-to-return guidance is about three and a half hours, while the selected product lists three hours. Use a generous activity block rather than interpreting the shorter listing as an exact return appointment. The relevant meeting instructions remain more useful for the day itself than a compressed headline duration.

Wanaka jump with Queenstown return transfer

The Wanaka product also meets at 35 Shotover Street in Queenstown, but the jump takes place in Wanaka. Return transfers are included. That makes it an excursion from your Queenstown base, rather than a second local drop zone. Allow the six-hour product block when deciding whether to reserve another experience on the same day.

Inclusions cover an experienced tandem master, safety equipment with gloves as well as the jumpsuit, hat, goggles and harness, and lockers at the drop zone. Internet kiosks and Wi-Fi are available among the base facilities. These practical differences are worth comparing alongside altitude if companions are organising the day around your return.

The Wanaka listing excludes children under six and restricts children under twelve to the 9,000 ft option. Use those stated product conditions when choosing a family booking. They should remain separate from the local operator’s child and consent rules, even though the products offer similarly named height options.

Age rules and choosing a height

For the local Queenstown experience, the operator’s guidance starts at age six, with a minimum weight of 40 kg. Children need to be at least 1.2 m tall and fit the harness. Up to and including age twelve, the maximum height is 9,000 ft. Under-eighteens require written consent. These local conditions do not replace the Wanaka product’s own rules.

For the local jump, participants from 95 kg receive an individual tandem-master assessment. Personal cameras, including smart glasses, are prohibited. Discuss participation conditions with the activity team when arranging the booking, and let the booked altitude and the team’s operating decisions determine the jump. Freefall and canopy times should not become guaranteed flight-time promises.

Keep the rest of the day manageable

Accommodation location affects the journey to the central meeting point. Use the Queenstown area guide to plan that journey separately from the excursion transfer. A pickup point in town and a return transfer to Queenstown should not be read as a universal hotel collection service.

If you prefer a different kind of height experience, compare bungy jumping; for an activity on the water, see jet boat rides. Choose the main commitment first, then build a realistic day around it.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Wanaka jump in Queenstown?

The outing begins with a Queenstown meeting point and includes return transfers, but the actual tandem jump is in Wanaka. Reserve the six-hour overall block for that excursion.

Does three hours mean three hours in the air?

The local product’s three hours describe the overall activity. Freefall is measured in seconds and depends on the altitude option, with a separate canopy-flight segment.

Can children choose any altitude?

Child restrictions differ by product. Local Queenstown guidance limits children through age twelve to 9,000 ft; the Wanaka listing states that restriction for children under twelve. Use the conditions for the selected jump.
